“think the unthinkable”
I really like this because i personally think that education with the internet does not allow us to think freely. We are programed to think like everyone else through news and blogs in popular sites. Higher education should focus on the creativity and new ideas of its learners. Right use of the technology should help the classrooms and the students in it
For my second topic I chose Copy Right and Wrong.
For the article I chose to do Copyright Risks in Embedding YouTube Clips which was a very interesting article about embedding video’s on youtube clips. It talk about sites likes youtube who have millions of videos on their site should be held reliable for the copyrighted videos that come up.
“Any time you incorporate a copyrighted work into a site without the rightsholders’ consent, you’re potentially liable” said Howell. Despite the fact that the user who uploads the video might not know that they are actually breaking the copyright rule might still be fined for it. The payment can go up to 30k dollars.
The Article even gives steps to help users avoid infringement and have a safe experience loading video’s on youtube.
1. Don’t Embed Clearly Infringing Material
2. Embed from Official Channels
3. Stick to Popular Amateur Clips
4. Say Something About It
5. When in Doubt, Link Don’t Embed
Overall I think that this article was very useful article to help our experience with online sites such as youtube.
Cyberspace: The New Face of War in the XXI Century
For the Fear and Loathing Online presentation I decided to do it on “Repression, Control & Propaganda” and with this topic I found an article regarding cyberwarfare.
With the technological evolution and globalization, a new kind of war is being waged. This new kind of war disregards the number of soldiers, power of weapons or the geological space but to cyberspace. A proffesional definition given is here “actions by a nation state to penetrate another nation’s computers or networks for the purpose of causing damage or disruption.” by Richard A. Clarke in Cyberwars.
This topic really interested me because the fact that I was in the army and I know how important information is and how seriously it is taken. A fact that a computer program can devistate a whole group of people and it has caught my attention that we really do rely on computer way to much. The Stuxnet computer worm is one incedent that caught many people and brought the idea of how serious it is.
Some pointers i wanted to point out for this article is this
- “If we were in a cyberwar today, the United States would lose.” former Director of National Intelligence, Vice Admiral Michael McConnell
- Pentagon attacked 5000 times a day
- extremely good Cyber offense but almost no defense.
The presentation was fun because it was more of a discussion then presenting especially for my topic. I was suprised many people didn’t know about the stuxnet program and it was pleasure explaining it to people and them asking questions and discussing about the topic.
Question is how effective would cyberwarfare be in an actual war situation?
I recorded from Die Hard 4 because the example of the Fire Sale reminded me of a cyber-attack
After reading the article regarding the web 2.0 i was pretty confused what the author was talking about. At first i thought that it is a change in the whole system of computers because of the upgrade from 1.0 to 2.0 but reading closely i found that the it is not an update in the world wide web but the way developers and users use the internet.
Web 2.0 allows users to not only recieve data the users were given more options to the way they use their online experience. One important aspect of web 2.0 is that all users contribute to the information and not the media. everything is information such as forums blogs news infograhics and anything and everything. according to a post in wikipedia ” According to Best, the characteristics of Web 2.0 are: rich user experience, user participation, dynamic content, metadata, web standards and scalability. Further characteristics, such as openness, freedomand collective intelligence by way of user participation, can also be viewed as essential attributes of Web 2.0.”
what is to come for web 3.0 is just amazing. Next thing we know our whole mind will be the internet and the experience might be something similar to a live experience. I cannot wait for the the upgrade and am grateful for what we have now.

For my Third ds106 Assignment I did the “Car Lust“.
The Instructions given was “So I wanted to submit a new visual assignment. All of us, most of us anyways, have a dream car. This is a simple assignment. Take a picture, or find a picture on the web of a car that you love. Then, write a description of how that car make you feel. That’s it. Short and simple. This combines the visual of a car, with the story telling aspect, of how an object make you feel.”
Process – Well I found my dream car picture online and then posted here.
Story – I personally always liked designs of Audi’s and this car when i look at it makes me want to succeed. This would be a dream car and not many people can afford it. It gives me energy to try and move forward with my life and try to succeed to a point where i can afford this car.
I did the assignment Your Dreams out a Window
The instructions given for this assignment was “Photograph your best day dreaming window and alter it to show what you’re dreaming of. Maybe it’s a dream of a different season, a vacation destination, a moment in the past, or a fantasy land; it’s all up to your imagination! Have fun merging a familiar spot with a whole new view!”.
Process – The Assignment was very simple to do. First I found a frame of a window then using adobe illistrator put the picture inside the window frame.
Story – This picture was taken last year february when I was still in military service. I was out for vacation for about 5 days so my friends and I were drinking in seoul to celebrate the occasion. Around midnight we all decided that we wanted to see the ocean and decided right then and there to go to the ocean. The place we chose was about 1.5 hours away from seoul. When we got there we ate some sea shells and drank a little. The picture is of me and my friend going into the ocean afterwards.
